The Special NIA court on Monday allowed a National Investigation Agency (NIA) application seeking time to file a supplementary chargesheet after further investigation into the “larger conspiracy” by the Indian Mujahideen (IM).

The court of District Judge I S Mehta on Monday also rejected the bail pleas of alleged IM operatives — Mohammad Danish Ansari,Mohammad Aftab Alam,Imran Khan,Syed Maqbool and Obaid-Ur-Rehman. They claimed that they were entitled to bail as the NIA did not file complete chargesheet within the statutory time period of 180 days.

The NIA had on July 17 filed a chargesheet against the five men for their alleged involvement with the terror group relating to a conspiracy to commit certain offences against the state. The NIA had sought extension of time after filing the first chargesheet saying that probe is going on.

Advocate for the accused Mehmood Pracha had called the chargesheet a “sham chargesheet” as the probe had not been completed in time.
