Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hit out at the media on Saturday — particularly the “national” media — for the second time in less than one week, holding it responsible for wrongly projecting the Northeastern region.

“Northeast is wrongly projected by the media, particularly by the national media. They are responsible for alienation of the people of the region. They are doing great injustice to the whole country,” Gogoi said, speaking at the inaugural function of a TCS training centre here.

On July 17,Gogoi had criticised the national media, saying there was a tendency to project the whole of Assam as responsible for the July 9 molestation incident. “The national media and TV only project the negative side of Northeast,” Gogoi had said.

Interestingly,Gogoi was preceded by Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, who took a dig at the media, asking them to sometimes report “by mistake” the positive developments taking place in Assam and the region. Ramesh said he expected the media to be more balanced. “I request my media friends once a while to make the mistake of doing positive news,” he said.
