An inquiry committee of the National Commission for Women probing into the mysterious death of a woman Ayurvedic doctor in Puri district in October last year had advised the state government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the matter as the “credibility of the investigation carried out by local Criminal Investigation Department was in doubt”.

The body of Madhabilata,(34),was found on railway tracks at Malatipatpur station on October 12. Posted on contractual basis, she was transfered from a hospital in Brahmagiri block in Puri to a community health centre in Malatipatpur area.

After the family members of the doctor alleged that she was being harassed at the behest of local Biju Janata Dal legislator Sanjay Dasburma, the state government last year ordered a probe by CID into the incident.

The NCW committee, which investigated the death early this month,in its report said the deceased was under orders of transfer. “She was suffering from anaemia and also facing financial problems. She remained unmarried because of family problems. These may be the reasons for her mental stress. This should be investigated thoroughly,” said the commission’s report.
