The Congress on Wednesday sought to turn the table on the BJP on the issue of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC),saying that the opposition was indulging in “doublespeak” in the fight against terror.

Quoting the BJP’s stance during a debate on NIA in December 2008,Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said at a press briefing that the BJP had then maintained that an anti-terror law is never a substitute for strong preventive intelligence or for “a strong security action and a quick reaction commando action against terrorism itself.”

He said the BJP had then said that an anti-terror law or a machinery to probe terrorism whether it is a central or a state agency comes into picture not as an agency or law which can prevent the act of terror. “This is what the esteemed representative of the BJP had to say in December 2008… If this is not an averment… If this is not a plea to have NCTC,how else would you read it,” said Tewari.
