Objecting to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s meeting with a delegation of VHP,led by Ashok Singhal,on Saturday, state Minister for Minorities Welfare,Azam Khan,Monday said that it had sent a wrong message among the Muslims.

Azam also stated that people “such as Singhal should not be given too much importance”. “Shaking hands with such persons (Singhal) has sent wrong message among the Muslims. I am hopeful that Mulayam will not compromise with his image, which he has achieved after a long struggle,” Azam said.

“Such reports have reopened the wounds of Muslims… When Muslims hold Singhal responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid,we cannot expect a civilised behaviour from them. However,if the mediation was for reconstruction of Babri Masjid, then it could be considered,” Azam stated.
