Mulayam angry,DGP feels the heat

Nagar was kept out of a meeting that Mulayam convened Sunday with the chief minister.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh DGP Deo Raj Nagar,who was considered to be close to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav,is under a cloud after the communal clashes. Sources in the government said Mulayam is angry with Nagar’s handling of the situation. Nagar was kept out of a meeting that Mulayam convened Sunday with the chief minister,chief secretary,the secretary to the CM and the principal secretary (home). The sources said that Nagar’s role in managing movement of forces and strategies in western UP has been curtailed with these charges given to ADG (law & order) Arun Kumar,camping in Muzaffarnagar since Sunday. Nagar had visited Muzaffarnagar on Friday but returned the very next day. A few hours later,violence erupted in the district.

Bareilly cleric quits key govt post

Lucknow: Blaming the government for its failure to prevent the clashes,Bareilly cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan announced his resignation Monday as adviser to the State Handloom Corporation,a position that gave him the status of minister of state. In a letter to the chief minister Tuesday,Raza said,“There is no point continuing… The post is proving a big weight on my heart after the Muzaffarnagar clashes. I can only say that the state government has failed completely to protect Muslims.”
