Mukul Sangma,47,was Tuesday sworn in as the 23rd chief minister of Meghalaya for a straight second term by Governor Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary in the Raj Bhawan. Sangma had led the Congress to victory by winning 29 seats in the 60-member Assembly. The party was just two short of a simple majority. However, eight independent and two NCP MLAs have assured unconditional support in the government formation.

“Our focus will only be on development because the people of the state deserve it. It will be our sincere commitment… that whatever promises we have made shall be implemented in letter and spirit,” said Sangma.

A top Congress functionary said Sangma has already finalised the list of ministers in consultation with AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
