In line with the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee, proper attendance in class will be one of the criteria for the candidates in the students’union elections this year.

“One major criterion would be the attendance of candidates in class. We would ask faculty heads to confirm the attendance records of candidates,” said P M Patel,MSU union president.

However, since most faculties do not maintain any proper record of attendance,it seems a difficult proposition.

Returning officer of for elections,Savita Chhelani, said,“It might be difficult to enforce the attendance criterion as not many faculties maintain a record. It would require a system that would have proper attendance recorded from the very beginning of the academic year.”

“We will work out a system where everyone involved in the election process follows rules and regulations to the last details. They will be given a check list to keep a tab on the entire process and curb any mistakes,” said

Chellani.
