Madhya Pradesh Police on Thursday raided the Gotegaon house of former BJP MLA Jalam Singh Patel, whose son Monu is the main accused in an abduction case. The duo are suspects in the alleged murder of two persons who were witnesses to the August 2011 abduction of one Kailash Rajak.

While the abducted man was released later, the case trial is still on and the next hearing is on April 4. Congress workers Manoj Chouksey and Balram Rajput, the two eyewitnesses, were run over by a vehicle near Bahoripar on Narsinghpur-Gotegaon road on Tuesday.

DIG A L Ahirwar told The Indian Express that the duo were not at home during the raid. The houses of 11 other accused in the abduction case were also raided but no arrest could be made.

Town Inspector of Gotegaon police station R D Mishra said more than 12 criminal cases were pending against Monu. The ex-legislator’s son,in his 20s,ran an extortion racket,he alleged.

The registration number of most Patel and Monu’s vehicles, and their phone numbers end with 999,a reference to which was made in the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday.
