Questioning the Gujarat growth model often cited by BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to attack the Congress, the Congress on Sunday said the number of poor has increased in the state and there are more poor in the state now than in Congress-ruled Rajasthan.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh cited the 2011-12 NSSOs BPL figures to take on Modi,a day after he launched a scathing attack on the UPA and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, mocking the food security law and arguing that those born with golden spoon dont understand poverty. He had also referred to the poverty line criteria of Planning Commission to attack the UPA government.
Singh said the number of families below the poverty line has increased under Modi rule in a developed state like Gujarat.
