As the Lok Sabha got down to business after the suspension of 12 MPs from Andhra Pradesh by Speaker Meira Kumar for five sittings on August 23,the government on Monday decided to extend the Monsoon session by a week.

The session began on August 5 and was slated to conclude on August 30. It will now continue till September 6 as per the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. The additional sittings are expected to result in the passage of some vital bills dealing with economic reforms and acquisition of land. While theRS had mostly functioned normally, with a few exceptions, the Lok Sabha had been rendered dysfunctional due to slogan-shouting by four members belonging to the TDP and eight belonging to the Congress.

The Lok Sabha passed three Bills on Saturday and took up the National Food Security Bill on Monday.
