Several BJP candidates in UP want Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections. Since he will be unable to campaign everywhere, the party will field Yogi Adityanath,Vinay Katiyar and Uma Bharti in his place, according to BJP state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi.

So far,18 candidates in the state have asked for public meetings by Modi in their constituencies.

However, the UP BJP unit has been told that Modi may be available for campaigning in UP for not more than two days, with five public meetings in a day. The party is,therefore, having a tough time deciding his itinerary.

“We have a time constraint. Since Modi will be moving across the country to campaign for the party,we will send him only to some important constituencies. But the trio of Yogi Adityanath,Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar are also well-known faces and star campaigners,” said Tripathi.

Although Adityanath and Katiyar are themselves contesting the election from Gorakhpur and Ambedkarnagar,“we will take them across the state for campaigning as they are leaders whose speeches always pull crowds. They will be helpful in those areas where we have to win back our voters,” said Tripathi.
