Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has put Narendra Modi on par with Sardar Patel.

Chouhan’s tweet that his work and stature could be comparable to Patel’s followed a Pakistani minister’s comment equating Modi with Hafiz Saeed.

Much to the discomfiture of the two BJP chief ministers, actor Raza Murad on Eid lauded Chouhan’s gesture to wear the cap and openly snubbed Modi for not doing so in the past. The actor’s comment touched off a storm with BJP vice-president Uma Bharati dismissing him as a ‘C’ grade artist and taking a potshot at Chouhan,in whose presence Murad had made the comment.

Chouhan later said the occasion should not have been used to make a political statement. Even Congress leaders were present when Murad made the comment.

Meanwhile, the Congress accused Chouhan of being an opportunist. “He has worn the scull cap to get votes and if the need arises will even take off his shirt to seek votes,’’ Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh said. Singh said Modi does what he says unlike the MP CM who goes back on his words.

Taking strong exception to the comparison made by Chouhan between Modi and Sardar Patel,Alvi said it is a severe disrespect to the freedom fighter. “If anyone compares Narendra Modi to Sardar Patel,I believe it is disrespect to Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel spent his life in jails for the independence of this country,” Alvi said.

“Sardar Patel was not merely a minister,he was not merely the Deputy Prime Minister,he was a big freedom fighter. This kind of comparison is extremely unfortunate,” he added.

Chouhan said the comments did not deserve a response.
