Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday came down heavily on the CPM after its Idukki district secretary in Kerala M M Mani justified killing of political rivals.

The statement of Mani made at a public meeting at Thodupuzha enraged Modi, who questioned the silence of the Congress-led UPA government and the human rights institutions on this.

“When leader of a political party says that we murder our political rivals,it is dangerous to our democracy. Where is the NHRC (National Human Rights Commission)? We should raise our voice against such acts. Our workers keep losing their lives in Kerala,” he said. “Is Delhi government sleeping? What is the Kerala government doing on the issue?” he asked.

Modi termed Mani’s statement as the most serious challenge to the Indian democracy. He said the CPM leader was openly speaking the language of violence as spoken by the terrorists and Maoists.

Modi wondered how the CPM leader was taking pride in his party’s history of committing political murders and the announcement to continue doing so. He has given a call to all concerned to raise a voice of protest against this.

The CM alleged that as many as 250 RSS workers were eliminated on political grounds by the CPM and that not a single BJP worker had ever got elected in any election in Kerala.

Gujarat CPM leader Arun Mehta, meanwhile, said that his party had never believed in political killings. On the contrary,he alleged,it was the CPM whose cadres had been killed in hundreds in West Bengal and other places at the hands of the Congress, the RSS and the Maoists.

He said elimination of political rivals could not be justified anywhere. (With PTI)
