A class XII student was allegedly kidnapped and then gangraped by her Facebook friend and three of his associates on Friday in Nauchandi police station area of Meerut district. The victim,a minor, was abducted and taken away in a car while she was returning home in a rickshaw after tuition. Nearly three hours after she was abducted, the victim was dumped at a lonely place.

The 16-year-old girl managed to reach home and told the incident to her mother. The next day the perpetrators reached the victim’s house and threatened to kill her younger brother if they reported the incident to the police. However,on Sunday the victim’s mother mustered courage and went to the Medical College Police Station.

The victim’s mother said she was made to wait for an hour as the police did not lodge the FIR. The purported reason was that the “geographical boundaries of police stations where the incident happened could not be decided”. The police sent her to Nauchandi police station where the FIR was finally lodged in the presence of the Circle Officer.

This despite a clear directive by the state Chief Secretary Javed Usmani that in rape cases the victim’s statement should be recorded in the presence of a lady police officer and that an FIR can be lodged in any police station.

No arrests have been made so far though the girl in her statement has identified two persons as Saumit Gurjar and Amit Bhadana. “Both are friends on the Facebook. The girl told us that Saumit had sent her a friendship request, which she accepted,” said Vikas Chand Tripathi, the Circle Officer who recorded the victim’s

statement.

According to Meerut SSP Deepak Kumar, the victim said Saumit met her on Shastri Nagar Road and offered her a lift in his car when she was returning home. Saumit’s friend Amit of Juranpur and two unidentified youth were in the car.

The victim has said she was taken to a house at Lakshmibagh colony where she was given some drink laced with sedatives. Later,Saumit and his friends allegedly raped her,Kumar said. She told the police that Amit and Saumit abandoned her near a shopping mall in the locality. The police are waiting for the medical report.

Saumit reportedly had in an earlier instance even chased the girl in his Tata Safari. Local MLA and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shahid Manzoor said,“It is a serious issue .I will take up the issue with our party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav .I don’t see any point why the police have not made any arrests so far when the mother has named two persons in the FIR?.”

Last week a national athlete along with his friends had tried to rape a girl in the car in precincts of Chaudhary Charan Singh University. The police so far have managed to arrest only one person in the case.

Another attempt ro rape five-year-old in a local mall was prevented when the locals overpowered the culprit and handed him over to the police.
