Militants give forces the slip,8 cops injured

The militants started firing and lobbed hand grenades that left eight policemen injured.

Militants trapped in a building here after police launched an operation on Wednesday evening have escaped. Eight policemen sustained injuries in the operation. A fierce gunfight broke out in a weaving center at Ahmad Nagar on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday evening after forces cordoned off the area and conducted door-to-door searches to track down the militants.

The militants started firing and lobbed hand grenades that left eight policemen injured. “At least eight security personnel were injured in the attack,among which five policemen got splinter injury after militants lobbed a grenade at the security forces”,said a police official.

Locals said firing continued till late in the night and ended at 3 am. The operation was called off on Thursday morning,as the officials claimed that the militants had escaped. “The siege ended after the militants managed to give the slip to the security forces,” an official said.
