An outbreak of meningitis has taken a serious turn in the Dholai district of Tripura in the past one month or more,with the Government confirming the death of at least 20 persons since January 20. A Central team of experts dispatched by the Home Ministry arrived at Agartala on Sunday to take stock of the situation and suggest effective measures to tackle the situation.

State Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty,while confirming that at least 20 persons have died due to the outbreak first detected on January 22 in the Longtarai subdivision of Dholai district on the Indo-Bangladesh border,the disease had also spread to other areas in the past two-three weeks.
