Security in Shillong has been beefed up in view of a 36-hour bandh call given by the outllawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) coinciding with President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the capital on Monday.

The President is scheduled to arrive in Shillong to attend the convocation of North-Eastern Hill University.

HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, said that the outfit had called the boycott to protest the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the government towards peace talks to resolve the “Hynniewtrep national question”.

The outfit, while eliciting support for the bandh warned non-indigenous people, including public servants and businesses,to adhere to the bandh.
