While the Ministry of External Affairs did not issue an official response to the ambush in which five soldiers were killed along the LoC,it called in Pakistans Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor Ahmed Khan on Tuesday to lodge a formal protest.
Sources said that the Pakistani diplomat was conveyed a similar statement, which was issued by Defence minister A K Antony.
Earlier in the day, with the opposition demanding suspension of talks,External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said,No one should think we are weak, but at the same time,we are in government and have a responsibility. Sadly, the opposition does not understand,we know our national interests and responsibilities… we will take appropriate steps.
We dont want to throw the baby out with the bath water. We dont want to create a situation that is detrimental and destructive for Indias security and peace. We will do whatever is absolutely necessary in national interest.
Asked about the Oppositions demand for a befitting reply to Pakistan,Khurshid said,I dont want to behave like the opposition behaves. I wouldnt take their advice.
