Chief Minister Narendra Modi is set to expand his Cabinet at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Saturday with the induction of five new ministers, sources in the chief minister’s office said.

The portfolio of former minister of state for home Amit Shah, who has had to resign after his name figured as a suspect in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, has already been allocated between Agriculture Minister Dileep Sanghani and Minister for Water Supplies Parbat Patel.

Sources said Raj Bhavan has given the afternoon timing on Saturday for the swearing-in ceremony.

Among the probables is Pradeepsinh Jadeja,MLA from Asarwa in Ahmedabad city.

Among others who are reported to be lobbying for ministership is Dr Maya Kodnani, who resigned before she was arrested in the Naroda Patiya massacre case. She,however, got bail after spending a month in jail.

Sources say there is strong pressure on the chief minister from senior BJP leaders in Delhi to re-induct Dr Kodnani.

This will be the first expansion of the Modi’s Cabinet formed after BJP’s second-time victory in December 2007 Assembly elections.

Though the apparent reason for the Cabinet expansion is the local bodies and panchayat elections due in October third week, sources in the BJP say there is a lot of discontent in state unit and the Saturday’s expansion is intended to placate the lobbies that are feeling ignored so far.
