Maoist wanted in Silda camp attack held

A suspected Maoist,Shyam Charan Tudu (26),was arrested by the West Bengal Police in Coimbatore district

A suspected Maoist,Shyam Charan Tudu (26),was arrested by the West Bengal Police in Coimbatore district on Saturday night for his alleged involvement in the 2010 Silda camp attack that killed 24 Eastern Frontier Rifles personnel.

Aided by officials here,a police team from West Bengal arrested Tudu from the premises of an iron casting unit where he was working for about a year. He was one of the thousands of migrant labourers employed in the industrial western district of Coimbatore. The Bengal police came to know about this and tracked Tudu,allegedly wanted for criminal cases,besides the attack on Silda camp on February 15,2010.

In February,Tudu had visited his hometown in Midnapore district,West Bengal. Since then the police have been tracking him.

The police team from Bengal got a transit warrant to take him back. Local police officials said that Tudu was hiding here and did not get involved in any political activity that could have exposed him.
