The Congress Monday dismissed speculation about a change of guard at the Centre asserting that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will complete his tenure and said all talk about his replacement is a “malicious campaign”.

Stating that there is “no doubt” that Singh will continue till 2014 and that he shares a “perfect and unparalleled” relationship with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said,“There is no doubt that Manmohan Singh will remain Prime Minister till 2014. What you are referring to as reports are not news reports but rumours and a malicious campaign which we not only refute but also condemn.”

“No new decision has been taken about this issue in any other manner. The party has repeated its position more than once. We had said it before 2009 Lok Sabha polls that Manmohan Singh will be our PM,” he said adding that as far as relationship between the PM and Sonia was concerned,“this is a perfect relationship” and “there cannot be a better relationship between any party president and the Prime Minister than the one which exists between the two”.

On Sunday, the party had refuted suggestions that the PM had to drop Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Law Minister Ashwani Kumar under pressure from the Congress president. Dwivedi had clarified that their sacking was a “joint decision”.
