A combing team of the Forest department, led by tiger expert Nawab Shafaat Ali Khan, has claimed to have shot the maneater tiger prowling the jungle of Faizabad,on Tuesday morning. However,no carcass has been found.

Officials said hearing the roar of the tiger and sound of gunfire, elephants on which the team had entered the jungle ran berserk. When the elephants stopped after some time, they had strayed far away from the spot. The combing team tried to locate the place where the encounter had taken place, but could not. The team will go into the forest again on Wednesday morning.

The encounter took place in Bihara sector of Kumarganj forest range of Faizabad. According to Jamuna Prasad,a local associate of the combing team,“the tiger charged on the team and Nawab Shafaat Ali Khan fired thrice with his heavy bore rifle.
