Anjaana Anjaani will reflect the varied and distinct flavours of New York,San Francisco and Las Vegas, says director Siddharth Anand.

When Siddharth Anand set Anjaana Anjaani in the United States,he chose to shoot in New York City,Las Vegas and San Francisco to capture the distinct flavour of each city. The film,a love story between strangers takes off on Wall Street in New York City, the finance capital of the world. Here Ranbir Kapoor’s background will unfold against the backdrop of one of the most populous cities of the world which is a melting pot of cultures. “NYC leads in art, culture, fashion and has a magnetic attraction,a backdrop that the story demanded. The best thing about NYC is that it’s the easiest place to shoot in. It’s the only city in the world to have it own film police. There are police officers and a department only for movies. So it’s not surprising that at any given time, there are 500 film shoots going on in Manhattan,” reveals the director.

The only regret,Anand has,is that the team of Anjaana Anjaani, including its cast Ranbir and Priyanka Chopra and others could not enjoy the city as much as they should have as it was the first place they shot in. “Everyone was a bit reticent as it was the first city we shot in and did their own thing like watching a film or having a quiet dinner after the shooting was over. We did not interact after shoots,” says Anand.

The cast and crew warmed up in Las Vegas, the next stop. Referred to as the entertainment capital of the world, the city is known for its fine dining, casinos, glamour and shopping. “But what I have captured of this fun and edgy city in the film is the Nevada Estate, the highways and what is known as the Strip. All these locations have a very distinct Western America flavour. They are in Las Vegas and are situated on arid desert floor and surrounded by dry mountains. The feel, here,is very different from NYC and San Francisco,” says Anand.

San Francisco, the white collar city of the US with its 30 international institutions,is where Priyanka’s character,Kiara, lives. Not as cosmopolitan or culturally rich as NYC,it provided just the right backdrop to highlight her life and character. The team was stationed here for 20 days and that is where everyone let their hair down. “By this time we were beginning to enjoy the country. Every day after shooting in San Francisco, all of us would get together in the hotel suite and party till dawn. The hotel security staff would rush up to our rooms and threaten to throw us out after listening to the loud music and laughter,” laughs the director.

The director admits that a car called Blush plays a pivotal character in the film. “I call it the third character in the film, that is why it is part of the promotional posters. Priyanka and Ranbir spend a lot of time in the film in this customised vehicle. When they were not shooting,it became their hangout zone and was laden with junk food and Priyanka’s music system,” he says.
