Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has convened a meeting of floor leaders of all parties in the Rajya Sabha on Friday to discuss the Lokpal Bill. According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, the meeting will be held at the Prime Ministers residence at 12 noon.
Bansal had assured the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha on March 15 that the discussion on the Bill would be resumed during the first part of the current session, which is scheduled to conclude on March 30. He,however, said the notices for amendments had lapsed and members would be required to give notices afresh.
In case an amendment is carried in the Rajya Sabha, the government will have to bring the Bill back in the Lok Sabha.
On floor coordination among UPA partners,Bansal said meetings among allies,if needed, would be held on five days of the week.
He said a common complaint of UPA partners was that their members did not get adequate time to speak during parliamentary discussions. We will work out something to give them some time from our share, said Bansal. Besides,he said, the allies wanted redressal of their grievances pertaining to their constituencies. This issue too will be addressed,he added.
