Three workers died after the cable of a lift at an under-construction building snapped and it plunged seven floors,in Sector-108,Gurgaon,on Monday evening.
The lift,at the Raheja Developers 16-floor housing project,was installed to carry construction material.
While two workers died on the spot,the third succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital.
The victims have been identified as Surender,Govinda and Bhawar Lal.
A case has been registered against the project manager as well as the site engineer for negligence.
We are trying to ascertain the cause of accident. We are also investigating if the workers were provided with safety gear and were wearing it or not, said Abhey Rao,DCP (West).
The post-mortem examination of the victims revealed that they suffered multiple injuries.
A spokesperson of Raheja Developers said the work had been outsourced to Universal Construction Machinery and Equipment Company.
We have the safety equipment on the sites and we ensure that the workers are wearing them. Proper compensation to the families of the victims will be provided as per the compensation package. A workers well being is very important to us, the spokesperson said.
Haryana Labour minister Shivcharan Lal Sharma,meanwhile,ordered an inquiry into the incident.
A three-member committee has been formed for the purpose.
Sharma visited accident site and said the government is keen to ensure labourers welfare and safety at such construction projects.
He also directed officials of Labour,Health and Industrial Safety departments to inspect construction sites in their areas and take action against the people violating safety procedures at such sites.
