Defiant lawyers of the Madras High Court continued court boycott on Friday, refusing to heed to the Supreme Court’s advice on Thursday asking them to call off their protest.

The protesting advocates reiterated their demand for action against the state DGP and city Police Commissioner for the bloody clash on the High Court premises on February 19,stating that the transfer of five middle-level police officers as per the order of the apex court was not enough.

Lawyers from subordinate courts in and around Chennai also joined the relay fast of their colleagues in front of the High Court, which entered fifth day on Friday. The protestors also gagged themselves with black clothes as part of the black flag day protest.

Meanwhile, the president of Madras High Court Advocates’ Association,Paul Kanagaraj, who is also president of the legal wing of DMK,announced on Friday that he had resigned from the post as well as from the primary membership of the party, citing government inaction against the police officers responsible for the brutal lathicharge.
