A Day after a labourer fell to death from the ninth floor of an under-construction building in Katepuram in Pimple Gurav,Sangvi police have registered a case of death by negligence against two contractors for providing faulty safety nets and protective belts. This is the third recent incident of a labourer death at a construction site in the city.

Balaram Chandrama (21) was working on the corners of the building on the ninth floor when he lost his balance and fell down. He was staying at the labourer camp at the Katepuram construction site. Police investigations revealed that the safety belt provided to him was worn out. There was also an old safety net at the sixth floor, which could not save Chandrama who succumbed to head injuries.

The case has been registered against contractors Yogendra Shaha and Rajendra Shaha for failing to provide adequate safety equipment and thereby causing death by negligence under Sections 302/10 and 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code.

In the past two months, two labourers had died at construction sites in the city. Both these incidents, one in Hadapsar and another in Hinjewadi, were similar to the Katepuram incident. Police had filed cases against contractors in these cases also, but with no further development till date.
