Kokrajhar violence: CBI arrests five persons

The CBI on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with the murder of four Bodo youths on July 20 — an incident that triggered large-scale violence in Kokrajhar and adjoining districts of Assam. This is the first time that the CBI has made arrests in connection with the Kokrajhar violence.

The five persons were arrested from Kokrajhar and produced in the special judicial court here. They were remanded to five days police custody,CBI sources said. The four Bodo youths,at least one of them said to be a former member of the defunct Bodoland Liberation Tigers,were hacked to death by a mob in Nampara-Bhotgaon under Kokrajhar police station. The incident triggered large-scale violence that led to the death of nearly 100 people in July-August in Kokrajhar,Chirang,Dhubri and Bongaigaon.
