A case of conspiracy, provoking a riot, and rioting was filed against former chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Mahagujarat Janata Party president Gordhan Zadafia at Bhesan court in Junagadh district on Thursday. The complaint also names some other Narendra Modi-baiters,including Congress MP from Porbandar Vitthal Radadiya,Congresss Babra MLA Bavku Unghad and Khodaldham trust promoter Naresh Patel.
The complainant is one Bahadur Khuman, whose paan stall at Parab Road in Bhesan town was among the nine shops set ablaze on June 3 by a mob. Khuman has blamed the arson on the speeches made by these leaders at a meeting on March 11.
The Bhesan court will investigate the matter under CrPC section 202.
While his community leaders have affiliations with the RSS and the BJP,Khuman says,I have no political affiliations or interest in politics. I just happen to be a victim who has lost source of his income in political games.
A total of 66 persons, including top leaders, have been accused of rioting, damage to property, inflammatory speeches and conspiracy under various IPC sections like 141,149 (unlawful assembly),120b (conspiracy),392 (robbery),436 (mischief by fire),452 and 153 (wantonly giving provocative speeches with intent to cause riot), said Khumans counsel Rajesh Thakar.
Though the rioting occurred hours after Bhupat Bhayani,a BJP councillor at Bhesan Taluka Panchayat, was shot at on June 3,the complainant in the plea claimed it had roots in Leuva Patel communitys meet organised on March 11 at Mota Kotda village near Visavadar where the leaders named in the case allegedly made inflammatory speeches.
Meanwhile, the police said they will carry a parallel inquiry following an application submitted by Kathi community members to Junagadh SP Dipankar Trivedi. The application has been forwarded by me to the police officers investigating the incident of riots at Bhesan on June 3, he said.
