The Kerala government on Sunday decided to probe into the allegations of local Congress leader Prasanth Babu that party MP K Sudhakaran had been the conspirator behind the murder attempt on CPM leader E P Jayarajan in 1995 and the murder of a CPM worker in 1992.
Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that a special team will be constituted on Monday to probe into the fresh allegation against Sudhakaran. The government stand in revelations about political murders is unbiased. Various quarters have demanded the probe. If necessary,Babu will be given police protection, said the minister.
Babu was office secretary of the District Congress Committee in Kannur when Sudhakaran was the president in 1990s.
He has alleged that Sudhakaran had plotted an attack on Jayarajan. I was given the duty of communicating the conspiracy to some of the close confidants of Sudhakaran, said Babu.
Jayarajan was shot while on board a train in Andhra Pradesh in 1995. Sudhakarans name had figured in the FIR among the accused, but the Andhra Pardesh Police had dropped the names in the chargesheet. Jayarajans petition seeking an order to probe into the conspiracy in the murder attempt is pending in the Supreme Court. The fresh probe comes against the backdrop of the pending petition.
Sudhakaran, who rose to the leadership of Congress in Kannur in 1990s,had pushed the party into violent politics of the CPM and Sangh Parivar. Several Congress members had lost lives in violence when he was party district chief. Two weeks ago,he had justified the murder of a CPM worker by his gunman in 1994. Rifle was meant to shoot down those who came to attack me,not to shoot down crows, he had said.
