Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna said Tuesday that the government would rebuild the Kedarnath temple area as per the map approved by GSI and ASI. He said that the Cabinet committee set up by PM Manmohan Singh would discuss this matter at its meeting to be held this month in New Delhi. He said he hopes that ASI,GSI and Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology submit their reports before the meeting of the Cabinet committee.
Bahuguna was addressing a press conference after his return from the Kedar Valley.
He also held talks with villagers, traders and representatives of Kedar Tirtha Purohit Samaj (KTPS),an organisation of those who own properties near the temple. The KTPS wants the government to avoid demolition of buildings in the area. The BJP,the main Opposition in the state,is backing the KTPS.
Justifying the governments decision for constituting Kedarnath Development Authority (KDA),he said the government needs agencies to undertake development. We need it to ensure proper arrangement of basic facilities like drinking water, roads and power at Kedar temple, Bahuguna said. He added the state is getting funds from the World Bank,Asian Development Bank and government of India on certain terms and conditions.
