Kanda sent to 14-day judicial custody

MDLR chief Gopal Goyal Kanda,arrested in connection with the suicide of former airhostess Geetika Sharma,was remanded in 14 days judicial custody by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate D K Jangala on Tuesday after the prosecution said the investigation could not be completed during police custody period. The police filed an application before the court stating that Kanda should be sent to judicial custody.

Kanda,accused of instigation and abetment of suicide after Geetika named him in her suicide note,was arrested on August 18 and was in police custody since then.

The police had also slapped charges of destruction of evidence,criminal conspiracy and under various provisions of the Information Technology Act on him.

Another accused,Aruna Chadha,an employee in Kanda’s company,MDLR,was arrested on August 8 and was sent to judicial custody.

Kanda will remain in jail till September 11.

Court gives cops time to find source of leak

A week after being pulled up over the leak of Geetika’s postmortem report in the media,police on Tuesday told the court they were inquiring into the source of the leak,and were granted time till September 21 to file a report. Police said the report was “leaked in most clandestine manner and a large number of persons need to be examined.” PTI
