Work resumed at all coal mines in Kalakote Wednesday as miners suspended their agitation following the state government’s assurance that their grievances would be redressed. All the 500-odd workers, who had been on an indefinite fast inside the Moghla coal mine for the last week, have now come out.

“We decided to suspend our agitation following a call from Thakur Rachpal Singh,MLA and vice-chairman of State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans,” said Bharatiya Coal Khan Mazdoor Sanghthan working president Rajesh Gupta.

Singh enjoys the status of a minister of state in the Omar Abdullah government.

The miners had gone on a fast inside the mine to press their demand for a hike in wages and allowances.
