J&K Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul issued a formal notice to former Army Chief Gen Thursday, asking him to explain his position regarding certain revelations made by him during the course of an interview in which he made allegations about payoffs to mainstream ministers in the state.

“This notice has been issued in response to a Breach of Privilege notice given by 15 Ministers/Members against the former V K Singh,” the Assembly spokesperson said. He said Gen Singh has been given 20 days time to explain his position so that further course of action could be decided under the rules of the House.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a unanimous resolution asking the Centre to conduct a probe into Singh’s allegations that the Army has been paying state politicians since 1947.

“I will summon him very soon,” Gul had said amid uproar on the last day of the Assembly session.
