The police on Sunday night took Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother and MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi and his family members into preventive custody after they resorted to a sit-in in front of the Dilkusha guesthouse here protesting Jagan’s arrest by CBI.

Earlier, the Kadapa MP’s family including his wife Y S Bharathi, mother Y S Vijayalakshmi, sister Y S Sharmila and brother-in-law evangelist Brother Anil Kumar started a ‘dharna’ outside the CBI office where the MP was arrested and was being kept for the night before he is produced before the CBI court on Monday.

They refused when the police offered to move them to their 80-room Lotus Pond mansion in Banjara Hills. Vijayalakshmi told newspersons that her son was being victimised by the Congress, and that the CBI investigation was a political vendetta against him for not adhering to the diktats of the Congress high command.

“I ask, what wrong has my son done? He decided to condole the families of those who died after hearing of my husband Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s death,is that a crime? It was against the wishes of Congress high command. My son is being victimised because the Congress is scared of his popularity,’’ she said.

The TRS which opposes Jagan for his united-Andhra stand said it welcomed his arrest. “Everyone has to face the law of the land,Jagan Mohan is no exception,’’ said TRS MLA K T Rama Rao,son of TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao.

The BJP’s state chief Kishan Reddy said though the timing of Jagan Mohan’s arrest, ahead of the byelections,is suspect,he will have to face the law if he did anything illegal.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said in a statement that Jagan Mohan should face the law. “There are a number of allegations that Jagan Mohan benefited from decisions taken by his father the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s government. He must face the law now,’’ Naidu said.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana said the party has nothing do with Jagan’s arrest as the CBI is an independent body.
