Less than a week after the first monsoon rain ravaged a major portion of this parliamentary constituency Mandi in Himachal Pradesh is all set for byelection on Sunday.

“Barring the Kinnaur Assembly segment,where the ECI deferred the elections to June 27 after flash floods left 104 of 118 polling booths inaccessible,polling parties have reached the other 1,921 polling stations in Mandi,Kullu and Lahual-Spiti districts besides Rampur and Bharmour Assembly segments,” chief electoral officer,Himachal Pradesh,Narinder Chauhan said on Saturday.

The seat that had fallen vacant in December last year after Virbhadra Singh resigned to take charge as CM. The Congress has fielded his wife and former MP Pratibha Singh against BJP’s Jairam Thakur,the sitting MLA and a former minister.

Chauhan said that ECI has postponed the counting of votes to June 30 from the earlier date of June 27. “A ban has also been imposed on exit polls between 8 am on June 23,to 5.30pm on June 27,” he added.
