The ITBP has pulled out 1,000 men from the China border for rescue operations in Uttarakhand. Officials said although reserves were available elsewhere, these personnel were called due to their proximity to and knowledge of the terrain of the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

“People from villages are also coming out near the helipads at Kedarnath. They are also being rescued along with stranded pilgrims,” ITBP DG Ajay Chaddha said.

On Friday,ITBP rescued 1,500 people from Kedarnath. He said the agencies were trying to expand helipads so big helicopters like Mi-17 could land, bringing in more food and water and ferrying back more people.
