Damascus: Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi Wednesday accused Western countries of “inventing” excuses to take military action against Syria over its alleged chemical weapons attacks. “Western countries,starting with the United States,are inventing fake scenarios and fictitious alibis to intervene militarily in Syria,” he said,quoted by state television. DUBAI: Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that US intervention in Syria would be “a disaster for the region”,the ISNA state news agency reported. “The intervention of America will be a disaster for the region. Qaeda vows to target syria govt

DUBAI: The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant,an al-Qaeda affiliate threatened a “volcano of revenge” against Syrian government,the SITE Monitoring Group reported late on Tuesday. “We decided to carry out the ‘Volcano of Revenge’ invasion in response to the regime’s massacres against our people in Eastern Ghouta,” SITE quoted the ISIL statement as saying. reuters

Russia begins evacuations

Moscow: Russia evacuated its citizens from Syria even as its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that a military intervention by the US and its allies “will lead to the long-term destabilisation of the situation in the country and the region.”The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said it evacuated 89 people Tuesday,with more expected on Wednesday.
