The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to immediately suspend the four year-jail term awarded to former BJP president Bangaru Laxman after his conviction in a corruption case.

Admitting Laxman’s appeal against the conviction order, the court said it would first peruse the trial court records. On his appeal, the court also issued a notice to CBI and sought its response by July 5.

A Delhi court awarded Laxman four years jail term and had also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on April 28 after holding him guilty in an 11-year-old case wherein he was caught accepting a bribe in a fictitious defence deal during a sting operation by a news portal.
