NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Mohammad Pintu can count himself as among the luckiest survivors of Thursday’s building collapse in Mumbra. He was working on the roof with his father and cousin when the structure came down. While the latter sank with the building,Pintu was thrown off the roof and fell away from the wreckage.

All three are from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh and work in Mumbra as construction workers. “The three of us have been working on the building for a year now. On Thursday,we were repairing the pipes on the roof. I was standing on the edge of the roof and perhaps that is why I fell away. My father and cousin disappeared downwards,” he said.

Pintu did not suffer any serious injuries either. “I felt like I had been picked and thrown away. Luckily,I have suffered no broken bones, but my left leg feels a bit sore,” he said.

But with his father Shahid Ali Chunni Shah (45) recuperating in Kalwa Hospital with a swollen head and cousin Idrees missing,Pintu has no time to dwell on his luck. He has been shuttling between Mumbra and Kalwa in the hope of finding Idrees.
