The Delhi High Court on Thursday expressed displeasure over a Central Information Commission (CIC) order directing RBI to disclose information on the action it has taken against “economic inconsistencies” of a bank though the HC had already stayed operation of similar orders in seven other cases.

The CIC,the RBI said, had been told that it could not pass the order because the case was before the High Court — which had also granted a stay— but the panel did not listen and said the stay was “not specific”.

“This observation of CIC can’t be appreciated… while granting stay, this court is not obliged to record reasons… in every case… Once a stay order has been passed, all concerned are bound to obey it unless it is vacated,” the court said, and asked the CIC to adjourn all other similar matters till the issue is decided.
