Realising that expert knowledge on Internet security lies with the private sector,the government has joined hands with private organisations in a unique partnership to enhance its capability to deal with cyber security threats and create institutional frameworks to protect sensitive data on its networks.

The recommendations of a joint working group,comprising experts from the public and private sector,has noted “critical shortage” of cyber security professionals in the government. The recommendations were released by National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon,who recalled recent incidents when Internet and social networking sites were used to create hatred and panic amongst people of the Northeast living in other parts of the country.

The joint working group also recommended that the Home Ministry set up training facilities for law enforcement agencies in cyber crime investigations and cyber forensics.
