Denying dissidence in his party for several weeks now,Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi finally admitted to it and blamed Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for orchestrating it.

According to Gogoi,Sarma was behind the dissident activities that several Congress legislators have indulged in the past few weeks in order to fulfil his personal ambitions. “I had trusted him (Sarma). Now he wants to become the chief minister, what else? I am no longer on good terms with him,” he said. Sarma was once considered as Gogoi’s most trusted lieutenant.

However,Gogoi mentioned that Sarma’s activities did not bother him. “Dissidence in a political party is nothing unnatural. I have seen several major dissident activities in the past. I am not bothered. The dissidents will soon get tired. I am ready to be the chief minister for yet another term from 2016,” he said.

Gogoi dismissed claims reportedly made by Sarma about getting foreign funds when he was Minister for Guwahati Development. “Who brought the schemes,Himanta or Gogoi? Can he bring funds from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)? I brought the JICA funds,” he said.

Interestingly, while Sarma preferred to remain silent on this, his supporters are happy that Gogoi has finally admitted to the dissidence in the party.
