Two dreaded militants belonging to Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HuJI),including its divisional commander Gulla Bakerwal alias Sher Khan,who had escaped from police custody near Batote on the the Jammu-Srinagar national highway Wednesday night,were apprehended by the police on Thursday from two hill tops with the help of sniffer dogs.

Identifying the other militant as Jameel Abbas alias Abdullah Bakerwal,a resident of Reasi district,IGP for Jammu zone,Dilbagh Singh,said both the militants were responsible for over a dozen killings. In some of the cases,they were facing trial in the court at Kishtwar.

Nearly 600 policemen led by district police chiefs of Doda,Ramban and Udhampur had launched combing operations from their respective sides towards the forest area in Batote and Patnitop. Apart from coordinating the night-long combing operation launched simultaneously by police from three adjoining hilly districts,DIG for Ramban-Doda range,Muneesh Sinha,had also sought help of the road opening party of the CRPF in Batote area.
