Taliban release video of Afghan base attackers
The Taliban published a video Monday they said showed insurgents preparing for the brazen attack on a major NATO base earlier this month,just as NATO forces released data showing that insurgent attacks decreased in August. The video shows men wearing US Army uniforms as they practise cutting through a chain-link fence and charging through the opening. One man is shown with drawings of planes and fortifications.
US state dept slams cnn use of slain envoys diary
The US State Department has accused CNN of distasteful reporting after the channel used the contents of a private diary kept by slain US ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens without the consent of his family. Senior official Philippe Reines said the television network engaged in atrocious behaviour by using the late envoys diary as it reported on events leading up to his death at the hands of militants in Benghazi.
Libya army removes key militia chiefs
THE Libyan military has removed the heads of two of the most powerful militias in Benghazi,replacing them with military officers,the army colonel who negotiated the deal said on Monday. Replacing the heads of the heavily-armed February 17 brigade and Rafallah al-Sahati militia would effectively strip two of the most powerful men in eastern Libya of authority.
Protests continue across the globe
Thousands of people continued protesting against the anti-Islam film in Sri Lanka,Nigeria and Azerbaijan. More than 5,000 protesters blocked traffic as they marched on a main road Monday in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo while hundreds of Muslims marched peacefully through the streets of a northern Nigerian city,Kaduna.
