Lawyers angry over film rally in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Several hundred lawyers protesting the anti-Islam film broke through a gate into an area in Pakistan’s capital that houses the US embassy and other foreign missions. Police stopped the demonstrators before they could reach the embassy,which is surrounded by another set of high walls and protected by security guards.

US shuts Indonesia consulate amid protests

MEDAN: The US temporarily closed its consulate in Indonesia’s third-largest city Wednesday due to ongoing protests over the anti-Islam film. About 300 members of the pan-Islamic movement Hizbut Tahrir rallied on Wednesday in front of the consulate in Medan,the capital of North Sumatra province. The embassy sent a text message to US citizens saying the consulate would be closed.

Sri Lankan Muslims join protests against film

COLOMBO: Hundreds of Muslims in Sri Lanka protested against the anti-Islam film,calling for its creators to be hanged. About 300 protesters marched in Sri Lanka’s capital,Colombo,on Wednesday,carrying signs and banners that read,“Ban anti-Islamic film all over the world; US should apologize to Muslims”.

Saudi demands YouTube block access to film

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has threatened to block all access to YouTube inside the kingdom unless the site cuts local access to the film,state news agency SPA reported late on Tuesday. YouTube owner Google Inc. has already blocked access to the film in Egypt,Libya,India and Indonesia,but has rejected a request by the White House to pull it from the site altogether.
