The Rohtas police arrested a 35-year-old man from Dehri after his wife lodged a complaint alleging that he had married five more women in the last 10 years, pretending to be an Intelligence Bureau (IB) official.

Vijay Kumar Singh,an unemployed and resident of Nawada district, had been living in Dehri with his sixth wife,Poonam, whom he married in March this year. Poonam said she had been duped as Vijay convinced her that he was in the IB and had been on a secret assignment that could not be revealed to all because of “professional requirements”.

Vijay, she alleged, had married five more women at different places in Bihar and Jharkhand, and used to divide his time among them. The police said Vijay would leave the house of his one wife to visit another, saying he was going to join his duty.

Poonam, however, got suspicious of his activities after she detected that most of the phone calls made to her husband were from women. “One day I dialled one of the numbers he had received a call from and was shocked to learn that it belonged to his first wife Neeta. Later,I learnt that I am actually his sixth wife,” Poonam told the police.

Rohtas Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said: “It is a strange case. We have dealt with several bigamy cases but this case is too much for the police to deal with. Vijay has been arrested for cheating and fraud and has been sent to jail.”
