Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray expects estranged nephew Raj to continue his cartooning legacy. Thackeray,who began working in the Free Press Journal as a cartoonist with R K Laxman,has said in the concluding part of his marathon interview to party mouthpiece Saamna that only a handful of cartoonists today had the political depth required to create effective cartoons.
Asked by interviewer and party MP Sanjay Raut who would carry forward his legacy,he said: Who will take it forward? I thought Raja (nickname for Raj) would carry it forward.
He said the faces of Congress president Sonia Gandhi,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Congress MP Rahul Gandhi,Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan,NCP chief Sharad Pawar and senior BJP leader L K Advani were fit for making cartoons.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj often makes sketches,even of Bal Thackeray. He picked up the skill at JJ School of Arts.
Bal Thackeray called for strengthening Hindutva to fight Islamic forces. He said there was need for the Hindu community to unite and fight Islamic forces and it was not merely a question of Marathis or Bengalis uniting. Hindus will have to unite . There has to be a fight against Islamic forces.
Thackeray asked party workers to remain loyal. Do you change your parents? Why are you changing parties,keep your loyalties fixed, he said.
