Police on Sunday arrested a person wanted in more than 20 cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery and kidnapping.
Identified as Aftab Alam,a resident of Panchrukhi in Bihar,he is alleged to be a close associate of Shahabuddin,ex-MP of Siwan. He has been absconding since 1998.
We received information that he would be coming to Old Delhi Railway Station to meet a contact. So we laid a trap and arrested him, said Ashok Chand,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). He has killed 20 persons. A pistol of 9 mm bore and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
A case has been registered. Alams first crime was robbery which he committed in 1990. In 1998-99,he became a close associate and sharp shooter of Shahabuddin,ex- MP of Siwan. Since then he has been committing murders either at the instance of Shahabuddin or for taking revenge on his old rivals, the DCP said.
In one of the cases,Alam shot dead 11 persons who were opposing Shahubuddin for taking control of a math. In 2004,Alam and his associates shot dead Harender Bhagat in front of Siwan court as he objected to the alleged booth-capturing by Shahabuddins supporters.
Police said Alam left Siwan in 2005 and settled down in Chhattisgarh where he had been working in a security firm.
